We are fast approaching Christmas, and with it the half way mark in our course. If you haven't already, it is time to focus on what lies ahead and consider the envelope you will be opening in August with your grades on it. What do you want them to be? After all, it is YOU who makes the grade, the exam board simply give you the opportunity to achieve it.

One of our leading news reporters, Channel 4s Jon Snow's blog on all things media/ news:

http://blogs.channel4.com/snowblog/
Jon Snow gets involved in the costume debate and discusses the differences in audience expectations of male and female presenters:

Highlights the importance of representation and how far media texts go to provide an accurate representation. In this case Downton wants to present an accurate representation of that historical time.

(Representation is the re-presentation of ideas/ places/ times etc)

A very interesting read highlight the differences in audience expectations of male and female presenters. Also taps into Media Language with the focus of costume:

Please remember that when being an active member of the Media you must also consider and link research to what we learn in class. You should be looking for articles related to this and also consider analysing media texts (MIGRAIN). The following websites are very good in helping you to stay informed:

http://www.theguardian.com/media

http://www.bbc.co.uk/mediacentre/

http://www.theguardian.com/culture/television

so that you can look at articles such as:

Paul Flynn is a fantastic TV reviewer - his Grazia column is rich in media language analysis - I highly recommend you regularly read his writing:
